While Durres has plenty to offer, its central location makes it the perfect base for exploring Central Albania.
Cape of Rodon: A 45-minute drive takes you to this stunning rocky cape. It features the ruins of a castle built by Albania’s national hero, Skanderbeg, and the beautiful 15th-century Church of St. Anthony. It is a fantastic spot for hiking and photography.
Kruja Castle: Just an hour away, Kruja is the historical capital of Albania. Perched high on a mountain, the castle houses the Skanderbeg Museum and a famous Old Bazaar where you can buy handmade silver jewelry, carpets, and traditional crafts.
Berat (The City of a Thousand Windows): A 1.5-hour drive south brings you to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Berat. Known for its white Ottoman houses stacked up the hillside and its massive inhabited castle, it is a living museum of history.
Tirana: The capital city is only 40 minutes away. It is a city of contrasts, where colorful buildings meet communist-era bunkers and modern skyscrapers. Visit Bunk’Art or take the cable car up to Dajti Mountain for a view of the entire country.
