Traveling to Durres: Everything You Need to Know

Getting Here: Most international travelers arrive via Mother Teresa Airport (TIA) in Tirana. Durres is only 30 kilometers away. You can take a taxi (around €25-€30), a shuttle bus, or rent a car. The drive is a straight highway and takes about 35 minutes.

Currency and Payments: The local currency is the Albanian Lek (ALL). While many hotels and large restaurants accept credit cards, smaller cafes, souvenir shops, and local markets are cash-only. There are many ATMs throughout the city.

Best Time to Visit: May, June, and September are the best months. The weather is warm enough for swimming, but the city isn't as crowded as in July and August. Plus, prices are even more affordable during the shoulder season.

Safety and Hospitality: Albania is one of the safest countries in Europe for tourists. The locals are famously hospitable and "Besa" (the code of honor) means they will go out of their way to help you. Most young people speak excellent English, and many older residents speak Italian.
